There are four main centres housing the tertiary hospitals in NZ: Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin. The regional hospitals also offer opportunities for nurses who are keen to experience life outside of the large cities. The NZ hospitals provide ongoing training and opportunities to continue tertiary study and professional development.
A majority of the nursing workforce in New Zealand are covered by a multi-employer national collective agreement. Each industry sector normally has a unionised organization which negotiates agreements on behalf of their workforce. Speak with a consultant from Hospital Staff to understand more about the agreements and which collective you will be covered by.
All nurses working in a clinical capacity (with direct patient contact) within the health sector in New Zealand must be registered with the NZ nursing council and hold a current annual practicing certificate.
The fees associated in obtaining your registration are: (as at June 2009)
Application for registration $485.00
Annual Practicing Certificate $96.00
