The New Zealand Government has announced a new visa option to help families spend more time together.
From 29 September 2025, eligible parents of New Zealand citizens or residents will be able to apply for the new Parent Boost Visitor Visa.
What is the Parent Boost Visitor Visa?
This is a long-term visitor visa that allows parents to stay in New Zealand for up to 5 years at a time – with the option to reapply and stay for up to 10 years total. It’s designed to strengthen family connections, while ensuring minimal impact on public services.
Key Details:
- Not a path to residency – this is a visitor visa only.
- Applicants must be sponsored by their child (a NZ citizen or resident).
- Must meet health, character, financial, and insurance requirements.
- Additional health check (after 3 years)
This is a great opportunity for families to reunite and spend quality time together over the long term. While it’s not a pathway to residency, it offers flexibility and peace of mind for both parents and sponsors.
If seeking permanent residency, the Parent Resident Visa remains available (limited to 2,500 spots annually).
